DWI Attorney Representation in Houston, Texas since 1992

Houston DWI Attorney

The initial Houston DWI attorney interview with a client is the first step in building the attorney-client relationship. It should establish the foundation of trust and cooperation of the client, gather pertinent information regarding the case, and explain the fees and expenditures involved and the conditions under which the DWI attorney will defend you against your Houston DWI.

One of the first things that should be established in the attorney-client relationship is the honesty and openness of the client in revealing all information to his or herDWI attorney. It is essential that the client open themselves up to the attorney, and not hold anything back because of shame or embarrassment. Your Houston DWI attorney is there to help you, and holding a certain fact secret from him or her will likely hurt your DWI case in the long run. Be sure to bring all pertinent documents with you, including but not limited to, your citation, notice of ALR suspension, the results of your breath/blood/chemical test (if applicable), et cetera.

It is important that the Houston DWI attorney discuss the DWI charges with you, and also to reveal the possible penalties, fines, and any possible jail time that may be associated with your DWI. It is also sensible to discuss the general schedule of the court system and the procedures that are followed when defending this type of alcohol-related offense. Note that the DWI attorney must be careful not to make any promises or guarantees as a result of his or her representation.

Finally, a frank and honest discussion of the attorney fees is worthwhile at this point. The Houston DWI attorney should explain all of the fees involved with every possible scenario involved with your case, from settling out of court to a full jury trail. A payment schedule should be discussed as well, if needed, and a discussion of how any possible fines will be handled.

It is also advisable that third party individuals not be present at this initial interview, especially if your case involves that particular person. This may cause embarrassment and/or make the accused reluctant to discuss his or her case and the third party's involvement in the case. However, if the case involves a minor DUI, than it is always wise to have a parent or legal guardian present for all meetings with the Houston DWI attorney.

Finally, the defendant should do their homework and come to the meeting prepared. This involves researching DWI laws and the penalties against him or her (a good place to start is on this website, the internet, or the law section of your local public library), and developing questions to ask your Houston DWI lawyer during the first interview. This will ensure that you will make the most of your limited meeting time with your DWI lawyer, and you will not be wasting either his or your time in the process. Most of all, arrive at the meeting with a positive attitude, relax, and work with your DWI attorney so that he or she can provide you with the absolute best representation possible.
